Has to rely on CC and Mobility as the means of survival You can also check our other Archeage Unchained builds if you prefer different character archetypes. Below, we present you our take on this class's build, together with some Gear/Stats recommendations and a breakdown of the most useful Combos. If you are looking for an aggressive, mobile, and quite intricate Caster DPS Class, that combines traits of a sorcerer with the mindset of a crazed acolyte, Fanatic is a great choice for you. All of these aspects make the Fanatic one of the most fun and challenging ArcheAge: Unchained Classes to play. When it comes to DPS, the Class has access to some very devastating Combos that are able to obliterate Fanatic's enemies in mere seconds if not interrupted. Just like most other DPS Caster Classes, Fanatic has to rely on his ability to avoid damage (by staying out of enemy's range and by making use of his CC/mobility toolkits) to survive in both PvE and PvP, which raises the skill ceiling for the class quite high. Thanks to the combination of Malediction, Sorcery, and Shadowplay Skill Trees, He offers very high Magic Damage output and mixes it with great Mobility and Crowd Control options. Fanatic is one of the most competitive Caster Classes in ArcheAge: Unchained.

Slit-lamp examination is very useful to distinguish PMD from other corneal ectatic disorders with inflammatory nature. pellucid marginal degeneration (pmd) is a rare corneal ectatic disorder that is common in men in the fourth to fifth decade, which presents with bilateral and often asymmetrical peripheral corneal thinning in a crescentic manner with high against-the-rule astigmatism. PMD usually starts later in life than keratoconus and progresses slower than keratoconus. The procedure completely eliminated myopia of -8.00. RESULTS: Uncorrected visual acuity improved from 2/60 to 6/60 following the procedure. It is a rare corneal disorder that shares many clinical characteristics with other corneal ectasias, such as keratoconus, keratoglobus or Terrien marginal degeneration. METHODS: A 41-year-old man with pellucid marginal degeneration with poor visual acuity due to irregular astigmatism was treated with intacs microthin insert (KeraVision, Fremont, Calif) in the left eye. Those were the best days of my life3/10/2023 Peace was achieved only in the form of a short stroll waiting for a new war. The state of war is supposed to be an exception to a peaceful life, but in my country, the opposite is true. The literature of war is well known in the experiences of world literature. This is not something that belongs to Iraqi writers alone. I have tried to escape the language of war, I had only one sentence (the fall of Baghdad), but it is beyond me that the war goes in line with stories of love, songs and mass exodus. We have lived through different kinds of wars and our personalities were formed from within them. There is more pressure on me as I am directly under the spotlight.ĭo you think that long years of wars have shaped the subject matter of Iraqi literature as it is an integral part of Iraq’s reality, and has this limited the scope of Iraqi writers? I will now have more responsibility for my upcoming novel. The Edinburgh Book Festival award will remain an important milestone in my journey. It is a representation of success, and I do not think there is a single writer in the world who does not seek success. What did the award mean to you and what impact will it have on your future? Love and politics in Baghdad: The Iraqi female writers breaking taboosĪrabic literature is finding a new audience through prize This novel belongs to everyone living in our world.īook review: The Baghdad Clock is a compelling tale of two girls' journey to adulthood We love books from different cultures not because they tell real stories about their culture, but because they belong to our planet and share the same feelings – sadness, joy, love, are emotions that belong to human beings wherever they are. Westerners loved it equally, because it is a story written from the heart, a “local” novel written with real human feelings. This is my first novel and it competed with 124 other Arabic novels, and it has reached its eighth edition in Arabic as so many readers fell in love with it. ‘ The Baghdad Clock ’ won the award at Edinburgh but came as a runner up at the International Prize for Arabic Fiction. When I received the letter from the festival's president, I could not believe myself and kept reading it over and over again. I did not expect to win yet at the same time I had a slight hope of doing so. I then went on to the festival website and found out that The Baghdad Clock was competing with 49 English novels, some of which were nominated for the long list of the well-known Man Booker Prize. I only found out during my presence at the exhibition. How did you get nominated for the Edinburgh book award?Īfter the translation of the novel into English, it got published by British publishing house Oneworld and I received an invitation to attend the Edinburgh International Book Festival, but I did not know that my book had entered the novel contest this year. The process of writing is a beautiful time, in fact it is extremely beautiful. A year and a half later, the novel was completed and was ready to be sent to the publisher. I asked myself: 'How would I write a novel and I do not even know how to begin?' After several attempts, the opening sentence came to me. I left the table in an almost defeated state. I sat down in front of the computer and discovered that the first sentence just did not want to come together. I told myself then that I had an important story and I had to tell it. I was struck by their direct approach that is devoid of literary exaggerations. In the spring of 2015, I had finished reading a collection of novels written in English, most of them were by women from different countries and cultures. When did you start jotting the first lines of ‘ The Baghdad Clock ’ ? I did not fear failure and I did not hesitate to try various forms of literature. I tried writing in many literary genres, and whenever I failed at a genre, I kept looking for another one – one that could give me the freedom to express myself. Since my first year of studies, I loved writing, and it took me countless attempts to search for the writer within me. When did you know that you wanted to be a writer? The National caught up with Al Rawi for her first exclusive interview since winning the book award to find out where the young novelist plans to go from here. The Baghdad Clock follows the friendship of two girls, and reveals the realities of growing up in a war-torn city and a way of life that's slowly disappearing. The book was the runner up for that award, and won the First Book Award at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, at the same time this year. Not many had been familiar with Iraqi novelist Shahad Al Rawi's name prior to her nomination for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction for her debut novel, The Baghdad Clock. Doki doki literature club logo japanese3/10/2023 When Alex’s creepy ass arrives at the literature club, he is stunned to see the club is “full of incredibly cute girls!!” Classy. Regardless, one day, Sayori invites Alex to her book club, the “Doki Doki Literature Club,” which Alex hesitantly attends, in spite of his worries that it will be filled with a bunch of losers (ironic, I know). Yet, Alex treats her like shit, whether that means scoffing at her “laziness” (which is later revealed to be one of her depressive symptoms) or calling her ditzy or embarrassing. This friend, Sayori, has been his neighbor since childhood and does nothing but watch out for Alex and encourage him to make friends. The protagonist (whom I named Alex because God knows I’d never bestow my real name to such a misogynistic, insensitive, pathetic loser) is a high school boy with exactly one friend. Even though the protagonist is faceless, it is clear from the limited dialogue options you are given in each encounter that you are a terrible (and horny) person. The contrast shows how merely operating from a problematic framework or mindset can lead you to ignore or justify accordingly problematic worldviews.Ī primary way in which DDLC elicits such discomfort to confront the male gaze is through the protagonist. But when you’re immersed in the gameplay and the game starts drawing attention to those issues, not only are you too engaged to be able to ignore the discomfort, you’re also much more sensitive to the ways in which your prior expectations are subverted. Dating simulators are non-threatening and comforting, so it can be tempting to overlook the issues with the genre. This creates an implicit association between “dating simulators” and “horror,” while the emphasis on the former lulls the player into a false sense of security. The passing mention of a “psychological horror experience” in a trailer full of cutesy anime girls causes cognitive dissonance (especially when these darker themes are not directly mentioned any further in their promotional materials), but more importantly, the brief hint at the true nature of the game establishes a set of expectations. However, DDLC is also billed as a psychological horror game, though the “horror” aspect is only briefly alluded to in gameplay trailers and plot summaries. The mere fact that the characters in such games are programmed to “love” the player reinforces the lack of agency women are afforded and constructs a fantasy world in which “no” simply isn’t a possible answer. It is a brazen objectification of women, and its existence revolves around the perpetuation of the male gaze. It should come as no surprise that this subgenre traditionally caters to men, and female characters are often the ones to be “wooed.” The concept of a dating simulator, as a result, is inherently problematic. A dating simulator is essentially a subgenre of video games in which the explicit purpose is to charm a romantic interest by managing things like “time,” “affection” and “trustworthiness.” The goal is to simulate the experience of wooing and dating an actual person, but in reality, it’s really just to pretend you can get into someone’s pants. The moral murkiness of dating simulators, the protagonist’s nauseating attitude toward the women around him and the restrictive stereotypes that said women are pigeonholed into all coalesce into a fascinating discussion of how the male gaze warps reality itself.ĭDLC is heavily informed by the dating simulator genre and, in promotional materials, it’s primarily advertised as a dating sim. Salvato’s game, dubbed DDLC, is a genre-bending, hard-to-define visual novel, structured as a Japanese anime-style dating simulator. In his 2017 psychological horror game, “Doki Doki Literature Club!,” game developer Dan Salvato critically examines the misogyny that’s particularly relevant in games and other media by parodying the male gaze itself. What’s obviously even more horrifying - to an extent I can never truly understand, given my own identity as a cisgender man - is the harm this misogyny results in. There’s something deeply unsettling about the inner machinations of the minds of horny cishet men, especially when narratives are already predominantly centered around and written by them. This article contains mentions of depression and self-harm. Myst exile3/10/2023 The large storage capacity of CD media allows the Myst games to avoid the downside of raytracing: rendering speed. While 3d graphic cards keep improving, raytracing still looks better. Myst depends heavily on realistic graphics to increase immersion. If you really like the music, there is a Jack Wall soundtrack CD, though it is currently out of print. Music themes are often heavily panned - I suppose to make you feel that the theme is all around, or following you around. Occasional choral accompaniment adds even more emotion. When not playing the game, load the M3Data subdirectory into your MP3 player, to hear all the pretty themes again (1.5 hours of mp3's!). The Options menu has a "Music frequency" control, so you can control how often music is played. Segments are played at random intervals, to add ambiance, without getting tedious. Each level/section has its own theme music. I sometimes leave the windchimes running while I'm reading or doing paperwork the quality is that good. They get muffled when you enter a tunnel. Wind chimes, wind, ocean water, river water, creaking bridges, clanking machines. Not only are sound effects panned correctly when you turn around, they were recorded well in stereo, so sound great. For me, it held up very well, even though it was released three years ago. This game has all that (as did the original Myst), wonderful raytraced graphics, and seamless Quicktime overlays. Good music can also add emotion to a game. I wear headphones, so if a game has good stereo sound, I almost feel as if I am there. It did reveal that another big content drop was on its way in June, however, as Techland will release the much-requested photo mode alongside a series of community events called "In the Footsteps of a Nightrunner".ĭear Pilgrims, your feedback always has the highest priority for us, and we want to be honest and transparent with you. If you're keen on trapsing into Villedor and seeing what all the fuss is about for yourself, you can check out our range of Dying Light 2 guides to make the most out of your time with the game.Developer Techland said in a statement that it simply needed more time in order to meet player expectations and deliver the expansion with "the absolute highest level of polish". Check back here in ~five years' time and see how on the ball 'Atlantis' and 'space' are for Dying Light's future.ĭying Light 2 is available on PC, current and last-gen consoles, and has a cloud version coming to Switch later in 2022. We're cautiously optimisitc, then, that Dying Light 2 is going to start in Villedor-ian locales and then spin out to. We don’t want to promise something and then it takes on a new life of its own and gets taken out of context." The game will definitely grow to get more locations and more content but it’s too early to talk about specifics. I think that’s all I can reveal at this point. “I think in those 5 years the game will have grown to be really huge. “We have 5 years of content in front of us with big steps defined that will take us to where we want to be in 5 years,” Smektala continues. That's not to say things won't go to Atlantis, or to space, in the future, though. Those are new locations.” Does Smektala shine a light on the future of the game? They are connected to what’s happening in the city and start in the city of Villedor, it’s all broadly the same area. “For DLC 1 and 2 they are different locations, but they’re all within the same universe, the same headspace. And it sounds like the game is staying more grounded (for now). Smektala drops some hints for us, though. We already know that Dying Light 2's first story DLC has been delayed to September, and details beyond that are thin on the ground. “Our PR lady is looking at me funny for saying this because in other interviews I’ve said something hypothetically about Dying Light 3, but the news headlines were ‘Dying Light 3 confirmed’, so I’m not confirming that we will take players to space or take players to Atlantis. That would maybe happen in year 3 or 4,” Smektala jokes. “Don’t expect that will take you to space or something like that. This Dying Light 2 roadmap is merely the beginning. It's a nice claim, but what does planning five years ahead actually look like for a developer that's keen to stick to a schedule and respond to fan feedback?Īs part of a massive interview covering new locations, new games, and listening to fans, we asked Dying Light 2's lead designer, Tymon Smektala, whether the game is going to go as out-there as the first Dying Light or stay a little more. Part of the immense popularity of the series is its longevity: the first game is still being supported by the developer – some six years after it orginally came out – and Techland has outlined its intent to support Dying Light 2 for at least five years post-launch, too. Melunga is asking: "why do we have so many religions?" Ooh, that's a good question. Well Pastor Doug, we've got a question here that's come all the way from zimbabwe. But I believe the world during the flood was in such turmoil that even satan feared for his existence. So a flood that might drown some mammals and a lot of people, it didn't drown the devil. And there're spiritual battles, and that's why we put on spiritual armor. But we don't wrestle against flesh and blood. You can read in the book of Ephesians chapter 6 that when we wrestle against the devil, I mean sometimes we wish that we could just box with the devil and deal with him like that 'cause we understand those kind of things. The idea is that satan is not flesh and blood. Why didn't satan die in the flood? Isaac's wondering why didn't satan die in the flood? Well, I don't think he knows how to scuba dive. Hi, my name is Isaac and I'm 8 years old. We've got some video Bible questions that have come in. I'm going to invite Pastor Doug to come forward for Bible questions this evening.
